The renowned publisher has appointed Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to lead the development team at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the anticipated over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
Management Shift Follows Mixed Reception
The new appointee takes on the role of studio head at 31st Union following the departure of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' lackluster early showing last fall.
On Wednesday, 2K president a key figure informed team members about this organizational change through an official communication, which emphasized that playtesting had shown the necessity for a clearer direction.
Ismailer noted that the team is now overhauling the project with a revised focus, aiming to better meet community desires.
A Pattern of Strategic Recruitment
The news mirrors a comparable step taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they hired Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to assist with the BioShock development group.
Below is the full text from Ismailer's announcement:
Dear Team—
I know you all just finished your town hall - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the recent updates. Previously I sent you all a update, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most dedicated and talented designers we have had the pleasure to partner with - and we’re looking forward for that relationship to continue.”
With your dedication and versatility, especially over the past twelve months, you repeatedly show that.
The gamer responses from last autumn’s the game demo was revealing. It confirmed the appeal of a action-packed game but told us we still had work to do. It uncovered the requirement for a more distinct identity.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve advanced. You took the input to mind and reimagined the title with a refreshed direction - one that’s positioned to achieve its potential to our fans.
The trust in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To further the outstanding development you’ve made, I am thrilled to introduce the new hire as the incoming Lead of 31st Union. After some time of conversations, he comes aboard us on next week.
His leadership and experience in the competitive gaming space is vast, having devoted the past decade and a half creating and overseeing some of the most well-known series in gaming, including Call of Duty: Black Ops, and lately, the battle royale hit.
I invite you all in welcoming Ben next week. We are all excited to continue witnessing the progress of the game in the weeks to ahead.
The President

Title Details and Concept
Project Ethos was unveiled in last year together with a public demo. Initially, 31st Union portrayed the title as a "no-cost, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an exciting evolution on the category."
"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in real-time to fit your unique tactics," the official summary states. "Challenge the rivals with fresh skills, risks, and tests that change every round. Will you withdraw carefully with your collected items? Alternatively take a risk, gamble everything, and trust your group can achieve the highest spot? The decision is up to you."
Project Ethos lacks an announced release date or supported systems, but players can look forward to additional details as creation advances.
